Les structures de commission multi-paliers permettent aux affiliés de gagner non seulement sur les clients qu'ils réfèrent directement, mais aussi sur les conversions générées par les sous-affiliés qu'ils recrutent dans le programme. Dans un modèle à deux paliers, l'affilié perçoit sa commission standard sur les référencements de palier 1 plus un pourcentage moindre sur les conversions de ses partenaires de palier 2. Certains programmes étendent cela à trois paliers ou plus, même si la complexité augmente à chaque niveau.
Cette structure se distingue du marketing à paliers (MLM).
