Il postback è un callback HTTP server-to-server che conferma un evento di conversione come registrazione, FTD o acquisto, indipendente dal browser.

Il postback è una notifica server-to-server (S2S) inviata dal server dell'inserzionista o dell'operatore alla piattaforma di tracking quando si verifica un evento di conversione. A differenza del tracciamento basato su pixel, che si affida a uno snippet di codice attivato nel browser dell'utente, il postback viene innescato interamente lato server. Questo lo rende indipendente dal comportamento del browser, dagli ad blocker e dai limiti della cookie duration.
Il flusso tipico del postback funziona così: un utente clicca un link di affiliazione che trasmette un click ID univoco al sito dell'operatore. Quando l'utente completa un'azione qualificante, come un FTD (First Time Deposit) o una registrazione, entro la finestra di attribuzione, il server dell'operatore invia una richiesta HTTP alla piattaforma di tracking includendo il click ID e i dettagli della conversione. La piattaforma attribuisce poi la conversione all'affiliato corretto.
I postback sono lo standard di settore per un'attribuzione di affiliazione ad alta accuratezza. Riducono le discrepanze tra ciò che gli affiliati riportano e ciò che gli operatori registrano, perché entrambe le parti si basano sullo stesso evento lato server. Una corretta implementazione richiede però coordinamento tra il team tecnico dell'operatore e la piattaforma di tracking per assicurare che i click ID siano catturati, memorizzati e ritrasmessi correttamente.
