Each shift is small enough to miss in daily reports but large enough to damage program economics over a quarter.

The diagnostic challenge is separating genuine performance shifts from quality deterioration. A 10% drop in conversion rate could mean your landing page changed, your product pricing shifted, or your traffic sources degraded. A traffic quality audit isolates the traffic variable by holding other factors constant.

Conversion Path Analysis

Beyond aggregate metrics, examine the actual conversion path for each affiliate. Pull the click timestamp, registration timestamp, first qualifying action, and any downstream events. Look for patterns that indicate manufactured conversions: identical time gaps between steps, registration-to-deposit times under 60 seconds, or deposits exactly matching minimum thresholds.

S2S (server-to-server) postback data is more reliable than pixel-based tracking for traffic quality audits. Pixel data can be spoofed by injecting conversion pixels. S2S data comes from your server confirming the event occurred, making it harder to fabricate.

Building a Traffic Quality Scorecard

Assign each affiliate a traffic quality score based on weighted metrics: conversion rate consistency (20%), geo accuracy (15%), time-to-conversion distribution (20%), downstream behavior (30%), and chargeback rate (15%).
