Il churn rate nel marketing di affiliazione misura la percentuale di affiliati o clienti referenziati che diventano inattivi in un periodo specifico. Si calcola dividendo il numero di affiliati o clienti persi durante un periodo per il totale all'inizio dello stesso periodo. Un churn rate elevato segnala problemi di attrattività del programma, di soddisfazione dei partner o di qualità del traffico referenziato, tutti fattori con impatto diretto su entrate e crescita.
Esistono due tipi distinti di churn che gli operatori dovrebbero monitorare. Il churn degli affiliati riguarda i partner che lasciano il programma, smettono di promuovere o diventano dormienti. Il churn dei clienti riguarda gli utenti finali, referenziati dagli affiliati, che smettono di essere attivi sulla piattaforma. Entrambi contano, ma hanno cause e rimedi diversi. Il churn degli affiliati può derivare da payout model poco competitivi, comunicazione carente o un onboarding difficile.
